And the beat goes on

Hey folks,

training is going alright. Those early winter mornings really are tough. But Spring is coming, and things should be getting easier. Here are some of the latest pics:

The pool parties are really getting outrageous, as we are joined by a new team. they'll be swimming in the Schuylkill. Yuck!

Running with the team after swim practice. Gotta love that sun!

It is SO much more fun to run with others. I really can't bear the treadmilll anymore.

The big news is the upcoming show at MilkBoy. This is my big fundraising event. As I need to raise $4,700 in order to participate in this event, I'm counting on everybody's help to get there.

Despite the holidays, the training has continued. A good thing too, given the augmented caloric intake associated with the season. This post I have some absolutely guaranteed methods for losing pounds relatively painlessly. I've lost over 20 pounds since starting my training, despite eating ravenously throughout.

Here are some of the latest training pics, and then I'll spill the beans on the super "diet."

The triathlon team getting ready for a chilly Saturday morning swim practice at the St. Joe's pool.

Awesome coaches with a little TOO much advice as we're chillin' in the pool.

These guys are amazing - they've done multiple ironman competitions, which make our events seem like a stroll in the park. Albeit a long and torturous stroll.

My official game face.

Getting ready for a run at my sister's place in DC on Xmas day. It was so warm - I could still feel my hands by the end of it.

So here's the skinny on the foolproof weightloss method (just in time for resolutions) -

As I've been working out pretty hard, I'm always hungry. And I'm always eating. Yet I'm getting borderline TOO thin. I think the secret is this:

- exerecise (anyone see that coming?)
- don't eat bread.

That's it.

Really, the bread thing may seem minor, but it's the bomb. And when I say bread, I really mean wheat - no rolls, doughnuts, wheat pasta, cookies, cake, or the like. I do eat rice pasta, and grains like quinoa and spelt. But these are lower glycemic level foods, and really react differently in the body. I say skip the fads, the diets, the shakes - all that junk. Just replace the carbs with protein and veggies, and in 3 months the results are amazing. Its such a simple and therefore easy resolution to keep - no bread. And its gets easier as you see the results - I promise!

Oh, and did I mention I eat hardly any sugar? I avoid processed sugars and fruit juices, and even minimize the fruit. I have a jar of nuts and rasins at my desk and snack on that while my colleagues graze on Halloween leftovers. I try to avoid eating any chocolate, because I know that once I open that door...

I'd love to hear if anyone finds this interesting - it's a fun thing to discuss and compare notes and encouragment.

And please consider supporting me in my event. This is your last chance in 2008 to make a tax deductible donation to support cancer resarch - which is the whole purpose of this mad little adventure I've embarked on.

Thanks and Happy New Year - it's going to be a great one!

Memphis in May - Getting started!

Welcome to my Memphis in May triathlon training blog. Hopefully you will be amused at my efforts enough to visit back often and follow the adventure. I'll be posting updated on training, fund raising events, and other fun stuff here throughout the winter as me and my Team in Training colleagues get ready for Memphis in May triathlon.

Ouch. Getting up early in the morning is the only way I'm going to get this done, given my heavily booked social calender.

Max looks excited about the whole training thing.

as does Mimi. I think she figures this means earlier breakfast.

LA Fitness - looking gorgeous in pre-dawn winter neon. This is where heroes are made. I just hope they'll let me in.

I can't believe how many people are here at 6 AM. Is this the night shift? Go home people!

As promised, a highly valuable antique photo of Devin with hair. And no, I'm not the one on the left.
